Beginning My Solo RPG Journey
After running the I6 Ravenloft with Shadowdark oneshot for Halloween, I was left with a hunger for more. I'm currently running a west marches with D&D 2024 for almost a year, and it's going pretty well, and I don't want to stop that. Also, not everyone has the bandwidth, myself included, to commit to a whole new campaign. And in basic more primal way, I just wanted to play with no complications.
Did I mention that over the past year, I've hoarded a lot of material that can be used for solo-playing? I just couldn't find the time to do it, but now I do. Just to mention some of the ones that I'll be using:
- Shadowdark: A system I've fallen in love with and the one I'll be using, which also has some free solo rules
- Knave 2e: It's a game system but it's filled with lots of generative tables, truly a gem
- The Monster Overhaul: A OSR bestiary with plenty of tables that gives the monsters a lot of spice and character.
- Uncharted Journeys: I've been using this book a lot in my west marches campaign. Is filled with so many random encounters, an excellent source of inspiration.
- Stonhell Dungeon: One of the most praised mega-dungeons
- Terra Invictus: This campaign is a huge hexcrawl, and it was designed with solo play in mind.
I've already started playing and I'm having a blast (maybe I'll do some kind of session diary). So if you've been on the brink of starting your solo journey like me, I really encourage you to do so.
